  • Ideal for learning

First of all, Duolingo is great. It makes learning fun, while addressing all strategies of learning. I definitely recommend this for learning a language. One thing to change - ads. If you are an adult looking to do this for your child, please note that you will have to choose between paying $10 a month or letting your child see inappropriate ads. Otherwise, I definitely recommend this.

I used to love this app. Judging from what I see on social media I want to support this company. But since the “Crown Update” I haven’t been able to get any useful information about my language learning. There used to be a thing on the lessons that told you how recently you’ve used skills from that lesson hence when you are like me and sometimes have bad weeks you can find out what you need to do to catch up. Since crowns this feature is gone and now I am afraid to try anything but the bare basics in any language I put any time into. On one hand I can understand some people can feel frustrated or intimidated by seeing things they thought they had mastered slowly slip away with time, but to not even have the option to see this skill slippage I honestly have no idea what I’m doing. Having 20 crowns in something that you haven’t done in a month is meaningless for language learning, and if that is what you are using this app for, instead of as a game that is couched in language learning, this will be troublesome. Again I used to love this app and nothing would make me happier to re-review this in a positive light but as of this moment I can’t use this app for its intended purpose.

  • Dropping a course

I love the app! It’s amazing to download and all, but I can’t drop the courses if I’m not interested in them anymore. I’ve looked at the help page and when it says, “Go to settings,” I can’t because it goes straight to my profile and won’t let me drop a language. If you could fix this, that would be great!
  • More levels would be great

This is a fun way to learn a language. I was pleased to see a higher level added and the ability to test out of level zero. I would like to see more higher levels added and the ability to test out of all levels so I can focus on my current level at that time.
  • I love this! It’s wonderful.

I have learned a lot of Spanish from DuoLingo. It’s exciting to know that I will be able to speak Spanish; sooner than later!! I have learned and retained A LOT in a week. This app uses repetition and visual, audio, verbal to teach us. Just like we learned how to speak English in America (or the language of your country). We even get to talk it out and it grades you. I am so excited 😁 Thank you, app developers! FIVE STARS! Just a NOTE: it’s free but limited in some ways. I wish this was a cheaper app to use but it is worth it if you have the spare money! I sure do appreciate all of the hard work put into this. Thanks!
  • Tips Forever!

Love the new update with the levels and more in depth lessons! However because when I updated some lessons I am already on level 2 or 3 which means I have missed out on the tips that are available on each lesson when you start. I find those tips very helpful and would love to be able to reference back to them at any time. If the tips could always be available no matter what level you are on that would be great! Everyone needs reminders sometimes.

When I initially got the app I loved it… I earned lots of “video candy“. As I started getting better I got less “video candy”. I need an incentive to keep on going. The cheaper with the points they got, the less fun it was. Too bad…

Great app and great concept. It would be nice if instead of always saying a sentence in Spanish and having us type the answer in Spanish, having just type the English translation instead. So we get in the habit of translating back-and-forth if that makes sense. The lessons become very repetitive though. Charging 400 coins to skip is GREEDY when you give like 5 a day for meeting your goal. That would mean it would take about three months to gain as many coins as it takes to skip. How convenient when you charge for coins? Also the “practice”health option when you run out is supposed to test you on weak skills but it throws in word you NEVER learned. For example I’m in the clothing section for Spanish, before the people section which i assume has feelings, and they asked me the words for tired and fun. I have neither learned either. How is that practice??? and Also sometimes you recognize typos and sometimes you don’t. . The conversation feature is AMAZING but putting it directly between level one and zero is highly frustrating. Have me do the conversation once i learn the words, at the end of the module. Have a conversation with words i don’t know does nothing but confuse me.
