  • Persistent bugs

I’ve used this app for a while on both Macbook and iPhone. However, the app simply can’t sync between the two. For a company the size of Amazon it’s really silly that a bug like this can’t be addressed.
  • Avoid buying eBooks from Amazon if you read on your Mac.

I'm a software developer who reads technical books on the desktop client so I can easily follow along on my computer. Amazon provides an easy way to find and download an ebook on almost any topic. It's unfortunate that you're forced to read the content you've purchased from Amazon on the Kindle platform. The Kindle app for Mac OS is a disappointment. The e-reader lacks look and feel customization, it crashes constantly, and the controls are counter-intuitive. I expect more from one of the largest tech companies in the world. I suspect they're not giving this apps development team the resources they need to make a polished product. I've started going out of my way to purchases DRM free content that I can read on iBooks, which I consider to be, a superior product. iBooks also has the advantage of syncing your position in your e-text between devices via iCloud, even if you did not purchase the content from Apple.
  • Unbelievably Bad

Like another reviewer, I too took time away from studying to write this review. The scrolling is unbelievable clunky, to the point where it actually makes me mad and dread choosing the kindle version of my textbooks. When I want to scroll to the next page, more than half the time it thinks I want to resize the page which is frustrating. Sometimes I want to just see what's at the bottom of the page and the app thinks I want to go to the next page. When I come back to the previous page it puts me right at the top of the page again. I've resorted to using the scoll bars and the next and prev button instead of gestures like it's 2003 again. Also there's a noticeable gap everytime it loads a page which makes skimming through a pain. Why can't we have smooth continuous scroll like in Preview Amazon??? I'm amazed at how bad this app is, and how no one at Amazon seems concerned with making the experience better as there has not been an update for the app in over 7 months. Shameful. Textbook example of bad user experience for an otherwise great service
  • Textbook was cheapest on Amazon, but...come on!

I use this app for my college textbook. Here are the features I miss every time I use it: > textbook mode--ability to disable progress bar and “go to most recent page” prompts > ability to view 2 consecutive pages at once > ability to disable trackpad zooming (scrolling often gets interpreted as zooming, VERY annoying) > ability to scroll to the bottom of a page without it advancing to the next page (often compounds the annoyance of the scroll-zoom) > ability to copy text via keyboard (Command C) > non-verbatim search results--How can a search of “basket” yield fewer results than “basketball” (both without quotation marks)??? > auto-saving of notes, and/or ability to use Command arrow shortcuts when editing notes. (Instead, it changes the page I'm on and loses my note edits) There’s also a glitch (I think) where sometimes I’m trying to select text to copy, and it highlights it automatically instead of prompting the menu. At least that goes away when I restart the app.

  • Great for crashing, useless for reading ebooks

This is a great app! You click on it to open and it crashes right away. I used to read books on it, but the app obviously knows better, and won't allow this.
  • OS X needs some love

The OS X version seems to get so little feature updates. Maybe the compan sees OS X as a weak user base and chooses to push fewer feature updates. The iOS version seems to get more love. (SInce I use both (iOS and OS X versions, I chose to give it three stars rather than one.)
  • Work required improving basic functions

Ok for casual reading, but terrible for interactive reading using highlights and notes. Also needs complete dark mode that extends to the tool bars.
  • Release a 64-bit App

It is surprising that a 32-bit version of this app is all that is available for Mac OS. A company the size of Amazon can do better. The app is pleasant to use, yet it obviously has not received the same level of attention as the Kindle app for other platforms. This app is in need of a refresh.

Please fix this. I have uninstalled and reinstalled five times, to no avail.
