  • Don’t update old documents to make new documents!

This app has some terrible problems. It can be a good app, as long as you don’t fall into a couple BIG problems that it has. For example, let’s say you had a document you made with pages and you don’t need it anymore, but it is formatted and has headers that are exactly what you need for a new document. So you open the old one, gut a lot of it out and type 20 new pages of text. When you close it and open it, ALL 20 pages of your new work are gone and the document has reverted back to the original document you opened. You try to pull up autosaves to see if your new work is contained in any of them, and while it does show that it has made multiple autosaves, your new work isn’t actually in ANY of them. The THUMBNAILS are your new work, but when you actually open them, it isn’t there. So ALL your new work was for NOTHING. This is ridiculously frustrating and an unacceptable programming problem. This problem does not occur if you cut or copy the headers that you want and paste them into a new document altogether, but trying to modify an old document is very dangerous and most likely will not work. Pages has another unexplainable problem. Often if you try to open a document (let’s say it’s called “BusinessLetter”), when you click on it, Pages will often CLONE the document and open it up as a new document (which will then be called “BusinessLetter2”). If you keep closing it and trying to open it again, it will continue cloning it every time, continually creating new cloned documents called things like “BusinessLetter3”, “BusinessLetter4”, etc. This is clearly not how this app was intended to work. When you google the problem, you will see that MANY, MANY people have brought this problem to the attention of the programmers but it has still never been fixed. Maybe if the Pages programmers would fix some of these big problems and focus a little less on hiding program functions under increasingly sexy but decreasingly scrutable hieroglyphs, this could be a great program again. I mean, the new addition from the most recent update is ANIMATED DRAWINGS!!! REALLY??!!! That’s what we needed?? Animated drawings?! Not the ability to modify a document without losing all of our new work?! I think a lot of the problems stem from unforeseen incompatibilities or results of interaction of this app and its autosave features with the Cloud or other features of the iPad. They make all these programs so smart, they outsmart EACH OTHER and then nothing works and the person who pays the price is the user/customer. I lost a 30 page document which took me forever to create and I had to re-create it FROM SCRATCH. All the Apple “geniuses” couldn’t do anything to bring it back. We could all see a correct thumbnail of my new work, but upon opening it, it would always be the old document and ALL of my new work was gone. Clearly, the new data existed SOMEWHERE, but it was inaccessible to anyone, including even Apple programmers. I would have been better off if I had been writing the document in a spiral bound paper notebook.

Since last “update”, NONE of my documents will open. The initial error I get suggests I try installing an older version of the app, but gives no link. When I hit a document to try to print or edit, the screen blacks out and goes back to home screen. Running latest iPad updates.

Still no indent button on the onscreen keyboard. Since updating for iOS 12, the red squiggly line for misspelled words constantly flashes as you type, which is enough to make it impossible for me to use unless it goes away eventually. Hopefully its just a new bug and not a "feature." *iOS 12.1 hasn't fixed this. Still can't open two documents at a time either.

Wow. Pages is getting a really negative reputation that I, for one, would like to get rid of. Pages is a cool app and has so many new features and cool fonts. It’s simple and a great app now that Plaintext shut down. Thanks for reading this and I hope you change your opinion about Pages if you have been thinking negatively. ——A writer using her dad’s account to save Pages’s reputation

I find the interface and options to be incredibly elegant in simplicity, which keeps me focused on writing, while at the same time having feature rich options easy to find and use. This is a difficult balance to achieve but wonderful that the folks at apple can pull it off!

This is so good, you get to change the script and you can make pictures move and you can add stamps, and you can see all the documents! And why I say “ pens BFF” is because I am in high school, and I can write and send to my high school! So get this app!!!!!!!!!!😫😛😋😝😜🤪🤩😎🤓🧐🤨🤨

I have been using Pages for over 4 years now. Through the updates, Pages has experienced minor changes. And although being a little slow, I have ignored it because of its fluidity in creating documents and sharing/transferring to word documents. However since the new updates, when I begin to rename/move documents into folders, sometimes it unexpectedly says that the user has now no longer allowed me to open the document. But I am the user and creator and was literally working on it 3 seconds ago. So I usually duplicate it and then I can open the document up again. Also when creating documents with pictures, it is super frustrating to move the pictures around. Somehow it does not respond to my touch and is annoying considering it takes me 5 times to move a picture a fraction of an inch to the right. Please fix this Apple in the new update. I want it fixed!!
