  • Back Yard Burger Ad kills the ap

    By jeffwilliams51
I read the CA and Tennessean on my IPhone. For the last two weeks or so, the Back Yard Burger advertisement has been popping up and won’t allow the user to scroll away or close the ap. It’s the most intrusive advertising I’ve experienced. If it’s not fixed soon, I’m going to cancel my subscription. I’ve already sent an email to the designer, but didn’t get a response. In its current status the ap is useless and a waste of money.

What’s the deal with this pop up blocking the ability to read articles or scroll to other articles? I am deleting the app as it has become unusable.
  • Annoying ad pop up

    By AreEGee
Within the last few days an ad for Backyard Burger pos up and blocks the entire content. Instructions say to continue to scroll to get past this but the page does not scroll. Fix this or I cancel my subscription.
  • Ads are driving me crazy!

    By bromfan
When I read articles, out of no where a Backyard Burger ad pops up and locks the screen. There’s no X to close it, it seems to have no time limit, I can’t scroll to continue content as it instructs. Sometimes when I totally close the app and reopen, I can continue reading news. Sometimes the ad is still there locking the screen. If this isn’t fixed soon, I’ll cancel my subscription. The news content has dwindled so badly since the Gannett takeover that I’m barely hanging on as it is.

The worst news App available. Use the website this thing is awful. Advertisements pop up and besides the usual cheap shot miss-click tricks; sometimes it opens up modal and hijacks your session. Love my hometown paper but someone over there needs to make better technology decisions. Just bad.
  • Bad....Really bad.

The app is rarely updated esp over weekends. There are constant “click here you’ve won an amazon gift card” especially in the obits. The obituaries are nearly impossible to read. They really could improve this app. I thought the daily paper was obsolete....well, this app is quickly joining those ranks.

Small town paper. Nothing new so same articles and contributor pieces are posted online for up to two weeks. Shallow reporting rarely answers basic fact gathering. Not many uses of links that would provide greater backstory. Some Okay coverage of state-wide issues because of the ties with Gannett and USA Today network.
  • Harder to use dice update

    By Kattianna
Can’t figure out how to log in with existing account. I’ve been a subscriber for years but this recent update has been a problem. Customer service is hard to get on the phone.
  • Needs more

    By Missing the old paper
With USA Today ownership, this no longer seems like a local paper. There is not much content for a paper in a city this size. Most articles are very bias. I still read because it’s the only source with some local content available.

In the morning, EVERYTHING seems to be important “breaking news” at the commercial appeal. Very annoying.
