We downloaded the Shaka guide for our road to Hana trip as a recommendation from a friend and we were SO happy we did! We used the loop tour and not only did it provide a comprehensive list of stops, explanations and descriptions, but they even recommended places that were must see spots and places that were nice, but not totally necessary if you are short on time. It was full of fun facts which made our 10 hour day trip completely fly by. Highly recommend using this app so that you can be on your own time but also get the full tour experience and history! Thank you Shaka guide!!!

The Shaka guide made all of our excursions and exploring a ton of fun and stress free. Can’t say how thankful we were for finding this app, will definitely recommended this to all of our friends traveling to Hawaii.

This was the best money spent on a tour. We went at our own pace and it took us about 8hrs as we skipped a lot of attractions but we were entertained throughout. From the stories on each of the sites or the history of Hawaii or the recommendations on which stops we should skip, I would have easily paid $20+ for this app. It’s remarkable!

The gps guide is remarkably accurate. The tour combines some goofy humor, history, native custom, and mood music. The guide drew attention to some fun detours—providing a variety of options for varied interests and time schedules. It’s much less expensive relative to guided tours, and you can go at your own pace. Remember to turn off cellular data when you begin the tour.

  • A Must-Have For The Road

Wow, what a great app. My daughter and I were staying in Kihei and wanted to experience the road to Hana. A couple mentioned that we should buy a cd to accompany us. I knew that there had to be an app for that. Since we decided to do the road “in reverse”, driving out to the Seven Pools, early, and then turning around and stopping at the sights on the way back to avoid most of the traffic and crowds. We started our tour at the seven pools. We loved the turn by turn instructions, the guide’s narration and the music and the history lessons. The app was extremely helpful giving directions on the spot, almost like having a local sitting next you saying “now turn right, now turn left”. We would have never found the Venus Pool without him. Because we were tight on time toward the end he was instrumental on giving us hints on what to skip. This was worth every penny.

  • Turned off at lava flow cave

This app was working pretty well until we went into the lava flow cave. It told you to bring your phone and use the flashlight feature inside the cave. When we got back the app was no longer working and because there was no cell service basically the rest of the way to Hana we had nothing. Then nothing back. NOT worth the price.
  • Enjoyable when it worked...

When the app was working how it should, it was quite enjoyable. The audio part kept shutting itself off, though, and I had to troubleshoot and reboot it for about 1/3 of the way there and the entire way back on our trip. Thank goodness I wasn’t making the trip alone or it would have been impossible. We missed a lot of the stops because there’s no way to go back in the audio without physically turning the car around. When I installed the app, I took the advice of the pop ups and turned my location services on for the app and my roaming service off for the app. This is after paying for and fully downloading the “classic tour”. The location on the map was synced and perfectly accurate the entire time. The audio would fail to start during some of the points of interest that were clearly marked on the app’s map, though. Very frustrating to know we missed many of the stops and I missed much of the beauty because I was looking down trying to reboot the app for the hundredth time. We won’t be using this app again.
